GlassJar Accounting Software

Accounting Software for Consultants and Service Businesses

GlassJar is cloud accounting software for consultants, agencies, and other service businesses.

It fits service work in three specific ways. Every transaction type is entered from one screen. One contact record can be a customer, vendor, and contractor at once, which matters when the people you subcontract to also send you work. And tracking categories let you see profitability by client or engagement rather than only in total.

Most accounting software is shaped around businesses that buy and sell things. If you sell time and expertise, a large share of the product is inventory management, stock valuation, and purchase workflows you will never open, and the parts you do need are buried behind them.

Your Suppliers Are Often Your Clients

Service businesses have unusually tangled contact relationships. You subcontract to a specialist who also refers you work. You partner with an agency you sometimes invoice and sometimes pay. Most accounting software forces those into separate customer and vendor records, so one relationship becomes two records you reconcile by hand.

GlassJar keeps it as one contact. A single record can be a customer, a vendor, and a contractor at the same time, and duplicate names are allowed when two different businesses genuinely share one.

Profitability by Client, Not Just in Total

Total revenue tells a consultancy very little. What matters is which engagements are actually worth doing once you count the time and the pass-through costs, and that is a question a standard profit and loss will not answer.

GlassJar has tracking categories built in, so you can cut reporting by whatever your business turns on. Budgeting and variance reporting come with it, and higher tiers add allocations for splitting shared costs across the work they belong to. If you are comparing against a suite product, the Zoho Books comparison covers the difference between built-in tracking categories and functionality spread across modules.

Fewer Screens, Because This Is Not Your Job

Nobody starts a consultancy to do bookkeeping. Every extra screen between deciding to record something and having recorded it is a reason it waits until the end of the quarter, and quarterly catch-up is where errors come from.

In GlassJar, any transaction type is entered from one screen. It is the same short interaction whether it is a client invoice, a subcontractor bill, or a journal entry.

Recurring Work, Recurring Billing

A lot of service revenue is retainers and repeat engagements. Recurring transactions are built in, so monthly retainers and regular costs do not have to be re-entered, and your receivables stay matched without a side spreadsheet.

What GlassJar Does Not Do Yet

The October 1, 2026 release does not include payroll, sales tax automation, contractor payments, inventory, or estimates. For most service businesses inventory was never relevant, but if you have staff on payroll or you send formal estimates as part of winning work, GlassJar is not the right fit for you yet.

What is there is double-entry accounting, bank feeds and reconciliation, invoicing, bills, expenses, budgeting, recurring transactions, tracking categories, and a report library you control.
